Centrally cooked mid-day meal scheme launched

GUWAHATI, Feb 19 � Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik today inaugurated the centrally cooked mid-day meal programme in Kamrup district. This programme will provide cooked mid-day meal on all working days for 20 thousand students of 260 schools of the district in the first phase.

The programme is being implemented with support from Akshaya Patra Foundation, which is implementing it in seven other States of the country. Later, 60 thousand students of Kamrup will enjoy the service.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor expressed his happiness on introduction of this measure. He also inaugurated a sophisticated and hygienic kitchen. Participating in the programme, State Education Minister Gautam Bora stated that the government was very concerned about the effective implementation of the programme in all the schools.

GUWAHATI, Feb 19 � The Assam Union of Working Journalist (AUWJ) had urged the State Government to provide financial assistance to the family members of Tankeswar Dutta, the Lakhimpur Correspondent of Dainik Asom, who was killed in an accident at Rajgeer in Bihar yesterday. It may be mentioned that Dutta had gone to Rajgeer to participate in the plenary session of Indian Federation of Working Journalists. The union also in a special meeting held at Nalanda near Rajgeer today decided to declare Tankeswar Dutta a martyr, stated a press release.
