Central team visits flood-hit Dhemaji, Bongaigaon dists

DHEMAJI, Sept 7 - A three-member team of the Government of India on Friday paid a visit to flood-affected sites of Dhemaji district and took stock of the post-flood situation.

The high-level central team comprised VD Roy, Superintending Engineer, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Sachin Gautom, Executive Engineer, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and Project Officer of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (protocol officer) Kishore Dutta inspected damaged roads, bridges, schools, houses and crop fields caused by flash flood during the last monsoon.

The team accompanied by Dhemaji ADC Ankur Bhorali, District Disaster Management Officer Lohit Gogoi and Inspector of Schools Karabi Deka and other government officials visited eroded buildings of Na-Ali Gyanjyoti High School and the Anaganwadi Centre, eroded PMGSY road from National Highway-15 to Gheyari village at Jiyadhal, damaged river dyke and RCC bridge at Samarajaan, pest-infested paddy fields at Moinapara (Gogamukh) and flood-ravaged Manikpur Boro village with damaged PWD roads in Mingmang gaon panchayat.

The delegation met the heads of line departments at Dhemaji DC�s conference hall on Thursday evening and took first hand information of flood damage from them. The magnitude of flood damages caused by Siang-Lali, Brahmaputra, Simen, Gainadi Jiadhal and Mingmang rivers in Dhemaji district during the monsoon was assessed by the department officials.

The delegation had earlier visited flood-ravaged sites in Lakhimpur district on Wednesday.

After visiting the flood-affected areas of Dhemaji district, the team proceeded towards Dibrugarh district this evening.

The Central government has deputed three inter-ministerial teams to Assam, which has been divided into three parts and assessing post-flood situation in different affected districts of the State.

Our Bongaigaon Correspondent adds: A three-member Inter-Ministerial Central government team visited some flood-hit areas in the district on Friday to take stock of the post-flood scenario and inspected roads, bridges, houses, schools and embankments damaged by the recent floods in the district.

The team comprised Ajay Gangwar, Advisor (Operation) of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Delhi; SB Tewary, Under Secretary in the Ministry of Rural Development and Jintu Das, Joint Director in the Department of Agriculture Co-operation and Farmers� Welfare, Kolkata.

Assam State Disaster Management Authority�s Project Manager Mirza Md Irshad accompanied the team as the Protocol Officer during the visit.

Before its visit to the flood-affected areas, the team had a meeting with the officials of various departments of the district on Thursday afternoon in the Deputy Commissioner�s Office here to gather inputs on the post-flood situation from them.

The team visited flood-hit areas like Jamdoha, Jaraguri, Bhandara and Basbari to conduct on-the-spot study of the damages caused by the recent flood. Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan and officials of Water Resources Department, PWD, Agriculture and Rural Development also accompanied the team during its visit today.
