Central team visits 5 State districts

GUWAHATI, Nov 25 - An inter-ministerial Central team on a visit to the State to assess the damages caused by flood and landslides today winded up their visit with a meeting with senior State Government officials.

The Central team visited various districts of Assam for on-the-spot assessment of the damages over the last two days. The team was headed by Sandeep Poundrik, Additional Secretary (Mitigation), NDMA, New Delhi.

The Central team discussed about the damages and loss of livelihood and properties of the people in the districts they visited � Kamrup, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Nagaon and Hojai � with officials of the State in the meeting. Chief Secretary Jishnu Baruah urged the Central team to consider releasing of the fund under National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for repair and restoration works against the damages during current year flood. Further, Baruah also urged the team to consider erosion as an item admissible under SDRF/NDRF in their report to the Government of India, as the State suffers heavily due to river erosion every year.

Poundrik assured that they will submit the report with recommendations very soon to the Central government. It may be mentioned that, this year Assam government has requested for release of Rs. 2642.99 crore from SDRF/NDRF for repair and restoration works.
