Centenary of Battle of Buribalam

GUWAHATI, Oct 8 - The centenary of the Battle of Buribalam, fought valiantly under the leadership of Bagha Jatin on September 9, 1915, was observed by the Assam branch of the All India Patriotic Forum, which paid tribute to the martyrs at a meeting held here on Wednesday.

The heroic battle fought between the revolutionaries and the British Police took place on the bank of the river Buribalam near Balasore.

Along with Jatindranath Mukhopadhyay popular as Bagha Jatin, Chittapriya Roychaudhuri, Manoranjan Sen Gupta, Niren Das Gupta and Jyotish Pal laid their lives for the country.

The meeting was presided over by the forum�s Assam president Rupam Baruah where Suprabha Goswami, Hareswar Talukdar, Pramod Kalita, Subhash Goswami and Jaharlal Saha delivered their speech explaining the significance of the occasion. Several other members present patriotic songs and recited poems on the occasion.
