JORHAT, Nov 22 - Addressing a press conference at the Chandrakanta Handiqui Bhawan here recently, representatives of Asam Sahitya Sabha said that they would host the inaugural function of the centenary celebration of the State�s apex literary body on December 26 and 27 this year at the Kachari Maidan.
The venue of the centenary celebration has been named as �Chandradhar Barooah-Krishnakanta Handiqui Kshetra�.
On the inaugural day of the centenary programme, two fibreglass statues of the first president of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Padmanath Gohaibarua, renowned scholar and literary critic Dr Maheswar Neog and the bust of the founder general secretary of the Sabha, Sarat Chandra Goswami will be unveiled at the Chandrakanta Handiqui Bhawan here.
�We the people of Jorhat district have been entrusted the responsibility to host the inaugural programme of the centenary celebration. We are leaving no stone unturned to make it a grand success,�said the secretary of the inaugural function celebration committee Samiran Bordoloi.
The people of the city will witness a pictorial cultural rally as several cultural troupes of the entire North East will showcase their folk culture. Further, delegates of the tribal literary organisations of the North East will also participate in the inaugural function.
Along with Samiran Bordoloi, working president Ajit Bordoloi, joint secretary of the celebration committee Mitali Saikia, president (incharge) of Zila Sahitya Sabha, Chandra Barua and many other representatives were also present at the press briefing.
