Census work paralysing Nalbari schools

By CORRESPONDENT

NALBARI, April 6 Studies at most of the primary and upper primary schools in Nalbari district have been paralysed due to the ongoing Census operations which began from April 1 for a period of one-and-a-half months. As the school teachers are engaged in the Census work, most of the primary schools have closed down, affecting the midday meal scheme for school children.

According to allegations made by the president of Nalbari district unit of AASU, Himan Barman, due to the wrong policy by the circle officers, all the teaching staff of some primary schools are engaged in the Census work.

It is alleged that there is no alternative but to lock the Arikuchi LP School, Bezkuchi LP School and Hanapara LP School as all the teachers of these schools have been engaged in the Census operation. Worse still, the only teacher of Bihdia Adarsha Vidyalaya is also engaged in the house-to -house Census operations. The Morrowa Kumudeswari Girls MV School is running with only the headmaster and the rest of the five teachers are engaged in Census work. Out of three teachers in Katpuha LP School, two including the headmaster are involved in the operations. Similarly, of the two teachers of Ulabari Balika Primary School, one has been selected for Census.

This is case in all primary and upper primary schools in the district. Though the Directorate of Census has clarified that the teachers are directed to do the Census works in addition to their routine school duty, no teachers selected for Census work are going to schools for teaching, the district AASU chief alleged.
