Cement factory in North Guwahati opposed

By Correspondent

NORTH GUWAHATI, May 24 Despite public protests and agitation, various small-and-large pollution-oriented industries were established in agricultural and green areas of Rahdhala-Abhaypur, Amingaon-Gauripur Sila during the past few years.

Recently, a huge and alleged polluting cement industry is under construction at Gauripur village and locals belief that this will threaten the existence of natural water reservoir like Ghorajan bed and others.

In this regard, a social welfare-oriented organisation, North Kamrup Kalayan Manch organised a series of protest meetings during the last few days. On May 12, a huge protest meeting, followed by a huge procession with banners, was launched at Gauripur. Several members of Asomiya Yubok Samaj, a voluntary organisation of the State, also joined hands with the NKM in fighting the deep-rooted conspiracies of a section of the capitalists to convert North Guwahati areas to a death valley by spreading deadly pollutants and destroying natural bliss pervading in the areas so far.

The office-bearers of the organising Manch and Asomiya Jubok Samaj met the DC Kamrup (rural) and sent through him an appeal to the State Chief Minister to interfere in connection with the establishment of the large-scale cement industry in the midst of green-and-populated areas.
