Celebration of JB Hagjer College silver jubilee

HAFLONG, Nov 27 � The JB Hagjer College, Umrongso, which was established in 1989, is going to celebrate its silver jubilee with a three-day programme from December 8.

In this connection, a celebration committee has been formed with Danish Teron, Executive Member in charge of Forests and Fisheries, NC Hills Autonomous Council, Haflong, as the president, KR Dey, principal, as the secretary. Other executive members are from among the public and various NGOs. The Chief Executive Member of the NC Hills Autonomous Council, Debojeet Thaosen, and the Executive Member in charge of Education, Kulendra Daulagupu are the chief patron and patron respectively.

The college had a humble start with the enrolment of only 25-30 students. It had no proper infrastructure at the initial stage. However, there are 320 students in the college now. It also opened the Commerce stream from the session of 2005-2006.

The institution has been playing a vital role in the field of education in the entire district since its inception. Though it has fulfilled all norms for provincialisation, the Government is yet to provincialise the college.

Talking to this correspondent, KR Dey, secretary, Silver Jubilee Celebration Committee of JB Hagjer College, Umrongso, said that all founder governing body members, teaching and non-teaching staff and alumni of the college have been requested by the committee to join the celebration.

He said that an alumni committee of the college has also been formed with Ram Bahadur Chetry as the president and Chandan Hojai as the secretary.
