Celebration of Engineers� Day on Sept 15

GUWAHATI, Sept 12 - The Institution of Engineers (India), Assam State Centre is organising the 52nd Engineers� Day on September 15 with a daylong programme on its premises at Panbazar, according to a press release.

The Institution of Engineers (India) has been observing Engineers� Day since September 15, 1968 to commemorate the birthday of legendary engineer Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya with a certain theme relevant to the technical scenario. This year the theme of the Engineers� Day is �Engineering for Change�.

According to a press release, a highlight of the programme will be a two-hour workshop on �MATLAB� where about 30 students of different engineering colleges and technical institutions will participate.

The open session to be held in the evening, will be chaired by Dr SK Kakoty. Prof TG Sitharam, Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati will participate as the chief guest and deliver the keynote speech on the theme.

Dr Aswini Kr Baruwa, former chairman of the Centre will speak on the life and achievements of Sir Visvesvaraya. The quarterly news bulletin of the Centre will also be released by the chief guest.

On the occasion, ten fellow engineers of the Centre will be felicitated for their contribution towards the Centre and society.

The organisers expect all corporate members of the institution, engineers from government and other organisations, faculty members and students of technical institutions and well-wishers to attend the programme, the press release added.
