GUWAHATI, Jan 13 - The Forum Against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill has asked people to celebrate Bihu this time in a simple and sombre manner.
Forum president Dr Hiren Gohain and convener Manjit Mahanta said while the people of Assam must celebrate Bihu as it�s a part of the Assamese culture and tradition, �we must also remember that the Citizenship Bill has posed a dangerous threat to the very existence of the Assamese people.�
�We should have a low-key celebration this time and the copies of the bill should be consigned to flames of meji,� the Forum member added.
Meanwhile, the Lawyers� Association, Guwahati, greeted the people on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu. �Hope this festival will strengthen the bond among the people to face together the challenges ahead of the Assamese people,� said Amal Chandra Baishya, general secretary of the Association.
