CEC to visit Tripura on Jan 5

AGARTALA, Jan 1 � The full-bench of Election Commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath would arrive here on Janaury 5 next, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashutosh Jindal.

The CEO on Tuesday said the full-fledged Election Commission would arrive here on January 5 to oversee the preparedness for holding Assembly election slated for early next year.

�During the visit, they are scheduled to meet officials of State Election machinery and hold an all-party meeting at the Circuit House on the same day�, he said adding the State Election department is yet to receive details of the tour programme.

The visit of the full-bench of the Election Commission assumes significance keeping in view the next Assembly election. As per the convention, the EC visit the poll-bound State before announcing the election schedule.

There were doubts over holding election on time because of delay in preparing final electoral rolls. The final photo electoral rolls which were supposed to be published on January 5 are now scheduled for January 12 next because of complaints in respect to the draft photo electoral rolls.

Meanwhile, EC appointed observer NN Butolia arrived here today. Section Officer Binod Kumar, who is supposed to assist the observer, has already arrived here.

Sources said, Butolia along with the section officer visited SDM, Sadar office on Monday and held a meeting there. He instructed SDM Manik Lal Das to take all possible measures to ensure preparation of error-free electoral rolls.

Butolia will visit Bishalgarh to verify the complaints in respect to the draft photo electoral rolls. The Block Congress Committee has already submitted a list of fake and Bangladeshi voters before the Election Commission. Separate copies were also submitted before the CEO and Election Registration Officer Tamal Majumder for taking necessary steps.
