CBI records Ibobi Singh�s statement in funds misappropriation case

IMPHAL, June 24 - A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team today took the statement of Congress leader and former Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh in connection with an ongoing probe into a funds misappropriation case, sources said here.

The CBI team conducted its investigation at the official residence of Ibobi Singh who is currently the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), the sources added.

The team had arrived here from the CBI headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday to continue the probe into the case, which it had taken over from the Manipur Police in November last year.

According to the allegation, government funds amounting to Rs 332 crore were misappropriated during the tenure of Ibobi Singh as the chairman of the Manipur Development Society (MDS) from June 30, 2009 to July 6, 2017.

Others named in the case are former Manipur Chief Secretaries DS Poonia, PC Lawmuknga and O Nabakishore Singh, former MDS Project Director Y Ningthem and its administrative officer, S Ranjit Singh.

Meanwhile, welcoming the CBI investigation into the case, Ibobi Singh maintained that he was never involved in any transaction activities of the MDS, apart from chairing its annual meetings. �I will extend my full cooperation during the investigation,� he said.

In another development, BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav arrived here today to take stock of the current political situation in the State.

On his arrival at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport near Imphal, Madhav said, �We are going to felicitate our newly elected member of the Rajya Sabha. It was a grand victory for the people of Manipur and the BJP leadership.�

Responding to another question, the BJP leader said, �We have been asked about stability of our Government in the State since the last one year, but we have been winning elections. We will be stable till 2022.�

Later, Madhav attended a felicitation programme of Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba who had won the recently concluded Rajya Sabha elections, sources said. Chief Minister N Biren Singh was also present during the event, they added.
