AGARTALA, March 4 CBI sleuths on Wednesday launched a crackdown on the Agartala-based Rose Valley office, one of the biggest money collection Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) here amid tight security.

Though there was no arrest yet, CBI sleuths seized various relevant documents from the Rose Valley office. The surprise raid by CBI sleuths triggered a panic among Rose Valley officials, agents and depositors as well.

Armed with specific complaints, a six-member CBI team conducted the raids in the Rose Valley office this morning. Though media persons were not allowed to enter Rose Valley office, it has been learnt that the CBI sleuths have seized several documents and papers.

Earlier, the Tripura Government had forwarded 32 chit fund-related cases to the CBI for undertaking probe but it has accepted only five cases. Later, the State Government gave more inputs on the chit fund companies and requested the CBI to start the investigation. The CBI, after examining these cases, has decided to undertake probe against Rose Valley, the largest money collection business in the State.

Meanwhile, opposition Congress has opened grievance cells in different places of the State so that duped depositors could lodge their complaints easily.

We have received overwhelming response from the people across the State and the party will come to the media with definite inputs on how people have been cheated by the NBFCs including Rose Valley, said opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman.

Roy Barman alleged the ruling party leaders have played a vital role in the flourishing of chit fund business in the State.

The Budget session of the Assembly witnessed uproarious scenes over the chit fund issue after the government rejected CBI probe into the chit fund related cases.
