CBI raid at RIMS Hospital in Imphal

IMPHAL, Sept 12 � The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a raid at the official quarter of the former Director of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Dr S Sekharjit Singh here today.

Sources said the raid was conducted in connection with the alleged misappropriation of funds in the purchase of infrastructure of the Dental College, including 34 dental chairs and recruitment of nurses on contract basis.

Raids were reportedly conducted also at RIMS administration block, former Director Dr Sekharjit�s room, former Dental College Principal RR Singh�s quarter, Dr Sekharjit�s daughter�s residence and Chief Finance Officer and Purchase Committee Chairman Y Debendro �s room, sources added.

Officials of Union Health Ministry also carried out an internal audit of the Institution, the sources revealed. The audit is said to be the first of its kind in the history of RIMS which is celebrating its 43rd foundation day on September 14.

Reports of controversies in the purchase of medical infrastructure, recruitment of nurses, frequent strike by its staff were widely covered in the local media in the recent time.

Truck movement: Imphal-bound stranded goods trucks have started to move from Mao and Jiribam following the lifting of the ban on all construction works on national projects and vehicular traffic on National and State Highways in Naga areas of Manipur.
