CBI probe demanded in appointment scam

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, March 13 - The Dibrugarh District Congress Committee today demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities in new appointments in the Departments of Panchayat and Rural Development and Directorate of Public Relations of the BJP-led State government.

The Congress leaders here submitted a memorandum to the Governor through the district administration here, urging upon him to nail the guilty by instituting an enquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). DDCC president and working president Atuwa Munda and working president Debaranjan Gogoi respectively and several other district Congress leaders submitted the memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha.

The Congress has alleged in the memorandum that the family members and relatives of Ministers including Naba Kumar Doley, BJP MLAs, BJP party leaders and of the RSS have been largely selected for appointment in the Panchayat & Rural Development department. The concerned company or the authority which conducted the examination did not even ask for the academic credentials of the candidates as their result was declared on March 5 and were asked to join the department on March 6, the Congress stated.

Similarly, appointments in the Directorate of Public Relations were also conducted flouting all rules. All deserving candidates were ignored and family members and relatives of the BJP Ministers, MLAs and party leaders got appointments, the DDCC mentioned in the memorandum. Some 64 were reportedly appointed in the DIPR.

DDCC president Atuwa Munda held Naba Kumar Doley, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Panchayat & Rural Development mainly responsible for the irregularities and demanded his resignation. He also demanded fresh examinations.
