CBI nabs top ONGC official for graft

NEW DELHI, June 7 - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested a DGM (Civil) and I/C Maintenance of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Assam Asset, Sivasagar, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000, a CBI spokesman said here.

A case was registered against the DGM (Civil) and Maintenance, ONGC, Assam Asset, Sivasagar, on the charges that the accused demanded a bribe from the complainant for releasing the security deposits that was refundable after completion of work. The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused while allegedly accepting the bribe amount from the complainant.

Searches were conducted at the office and residence of the accused which led to recovery of cash of Rs 5 lakh from the drawer of his office table, the CBI official said.

The arrested accused will be produced before a court in Guwahati, official sources said.
