CBI grilling may cost Anjan his candidature

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, Nov 27 Congress MLA Anjan Duttas fate hangs in balance, as the AICC is contemplating dropping his name from the panel of names selected for the post of PCC president. New hopefuls for the post include State Minister Rockybul Hussain and Bharat Narah.

If the Congress High Command decides to drop Dutta, then he might become the first political victim of the Saradha scam, as the party leaders developed cold feet after the CBI questioned him in Kolkata on November 24.

Sources confided that Duttas name is likely to be dropped and a new panel comprising Rockybul Hussain and the Chief Ministers media advisor Narah, is being considered. The new panel has come as a surprise for many Congressmen.

The panel of names drawn up earlier included Anjan Dutta, Ripun Bora, Rockybul Hussain and Bharat Narah, said sources.

Both Hussain and Narah are interestingly Tarun Gogois loyalists and the Chief Minister is unlikely to oppose their candidature. Curiously enough, State Minister Pradyut Bordolois name was also doing the rounds, but his name was dropped at the last moment for reasons not yet known.

Sources said a proposal is also under consideration to drop the ministers, in whose constituency Congress candidates trailed during the last Parliament election.

The Chief Ministers list of new ministers, significantly has been kept pending with the AICC holding up reshuffle of Gogois council of ministers. Sources said that a couple of issues are yet to be thrashed out before the list is cleared.
