GUWAHATI, June 17 � The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases Guwahati, against a senior Airport Authority of India (AAI) official for his alleged involvement in a bribery case.
�The CBI has filed chargesheet� against then Senior Manager, Engineering (C), Jorhat airport, Assam�,� a CBI statement said.
The chargesheet has been filed under Sections 7, 13(2) and 13 (i)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The name of the official against whom chargesheet has been filed was, however, not provided in the statement.
It said that a case was registered against the official on December 12, 2012, for allegedly demanding Rs 75,000 from a person for clearing and passing his pending works executed by the person in Jorhat airport. The person had tipped off the CBI about the demand for bribe.
�Accordingly a trap was laid by the CBI and the accused was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant. The accused was arrested on December 26, 2012, and released on bail on February 26, 2013,� the statement added.
