Cattle show at Gobindapur to mark Goru Bihu

PATACHARKUCHI, April 17 � A unique cattle show was held at the courtyard of Gobindapur Satra to mark the first day of Rongali Bihu which is celebrated with pomp and gaiety throughout the State as �Goru Bihu�. A large number of people thronged the premises to witness the event and a large number of participants also took part in the cow show.

The event was organised by Sarbodoi Sangha as a part of celebration of Rongali Bihu and the cow show has entered into its eighth consecutive year.The organising committee tried to make cultivators aware about various cares and steps to be taken to keep their cows healthy. A ramp was decorated with the various cultivating accessories and day-to-day items of rural agricultural life and the participants brought their cows to the ramps by decorating with clothes and ribbon one by one and the judges asked various questions regarding the scientific care of the animal and traditional works during Goru Bihu.

Rajen Das, Asstt Professor of NH College conducted the competition which was formally declared open by Ramendra Nath Sarma, SDO(C) Bajali subdivision. Dr Sunil Sarma, Ranjit Dutta and Ram Nath Choudhury were the judges of the competition. Before the competition began, one chorous and bihu dance by small girls was performed besides juna nam by Ranjit Das. In the competition, Dinesh Barman of Muguria village got first prize, Manju Kalita of Gobindapur got second, Jiten Choudhury of Saora village got third and Mintu Kalita of Gobindapur got consolation prize. Packets of cattle feed and medicine were also distributed among the participants of the competition free of cost. The organisers thanked the Veterinary and Agricultural departments for their help.
