Cattle show at Gobindapur Satra to mark Goru Bihu

PATACHARKUCHI, April 16 - A cattle show-cum-competition was held at Gobindapur Satra on the occasion of Goru Bihu, i.e. on the first day of Bohag Bihu under the aegis of Gobindapur Bihu Celebration Committee.

A large number of participants of the locality took part by bringing their cows and bulls for taking part in the cattle show-cum-competition. This was the 13th consecutive occasion on which the villagers organised the unique event which was thronged by a large number of people.

The cattle show was formally declared open by Tileswar Saikia, Subdivisional Police Offier of Bajali. Dr Hidul Talukdar, Rabin Deka, a farmer, artist Basanta Patgiri and Dr Hitesh Pathak were the judges of the competition.

At least 50 people were felicitated on the occasion. Ganesh Das won the first prize, while Dwijen Deka bagged the second prize as Manju Kalita secured the third prize in the cattle show. The cattle were decorated with garlands made from brinjal and gourd along with a gamusa. The participants were welcomed to the ramp with the accompaniment of Bihu songs even as the judges asked questions regarding ways and means to take care of the cattle.

The participants stepped into the ramp one after another, when called upon to do so. The ramp was decorated with various agricultural tools and items used by the farmers in day-to-day life. Free medicine was provided by the Veterinary Department of Bajali subdivision and fodder provided by Ganesh Feeds among the cattle. Pranab Goswami and Rinku Goswami jointly anchored the programme as Nagen Choudhury initiated the Gou Pranaam.
