Cattle meant for smuggling seized

DHUBRI, Aug 14 - As many as 97 cattle loaded on two mechanised boats were seized in a an operation on the intervening nights between Thursday and Friday in the Brahmaputra by Dhubri police.

The operation was conducted by a special team of Dhubri police under challenging conditions in the bordering areas of Dhubri and South Salmara Mankachar districts. Police informed that the boats carrying the cattle, suspected to be meant for smuggling, were chased by the team for a few hours before they could be captured.

During the operation, a few of the cattle that were deliberately dropped into the river were also recovered by the team.

It may be mentioned that around 4 rounds were fired in an attempt to stop the fleeing boats but the suspected smugglers managed to escape by abandoning the boats.

However, later police captured one of the smugglers.

�The search for the other smugglers is on and we will nab them very soon,� said Anand Mishra, Dhubri SP.
