Cash awards to 28 meritorious students

JORHAT, Sept 12 - The Jorhat zonal office of the Assistant PF Commissioner of Assam Tea Employees Provident Fund Organisation (ATEPFO) under the State Labour Welfare department today gave away cash awards to 28 meritorious HSLC and HS passed students of this year, belonging to families who are members of the PF organisation and working in tea gardens.

Each student was given Rs 2,000, a certificate, a pack of books and a gamusa at a function held at the Mukti Yujaru Bhawan here, which was attended by State Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami and Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, among others.

It may be mentioned here that the prizes were distributed on the occasion of 65th Foundation Day of ATEPFO in the memory of Loknayak Amiyo Kumar Das, a Gandhian, a social worker and former labour minister of Assam, who was instrumental in establishing the organisation meant for providing social security to the tea estate workers and staff.

In the function, presided over by Assam Tea Planters� Association secretary Anjan Bhuyan, both Goswami and Tasa congratulated the students and encouraged them to perform better ahead in their academic life.

Both the Rajya Sabha MP and the Assembly Speaker said the State Government has taken several welfare measures for the tea workers.

Earlier, Someswar Barhoi, Assistant PF Commissioner of Jorhat zonal office of ATEPFO, gave the welcome address and also delivered the vote of thanks later.
