Cases registered against Lohia, Prithani: KMSS

GUWAHATI, Sept 29 � The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) today claimed that bowing to the pressure of the farmers� movement, the Kamrup district administration has registered cases under non-bailable section against Suresh Prithani and Kailash Lohia, who have taken possession of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes.

�The administration has registered cases against 31 firms, including Brahmaputra Consortium of Prithani and the wife of Lohia at Palashbari police station. Cases have also been registered against other land mafias at Hajo police station,� said a statement from the KMSS.

�We have been fighting a long battle against use of agricultural land for non-agricultural activities by businessmen and real estate developers, who have procured large plots of cultivable land from farmers in Kamrup district, the statement said.

While welcoming the step taken by the district administration, the farmers� body also demanded arrest of the land mafia. It also demanded action against Ram Avtar Burakia for his involvement in similar activities.
