GUWAHATI, April 5 � Eight IPS officers and 20 APS officers of Assam have cases pending against them. They are Diganta Bora, Anurag Tankha, Raghabendra Awasti, BK Mishra, Ajay Kumar Jolly, Apurba Jivan Baruah, YT Gasto, Dulen Chandra Deka � all IPS and Randeep Baruah, N Mahanta, Pankaj Sarma, Mahesh Chand Sharma, Nandan Sarma, Imdadul Haq Bora, Rahul Amin, Mantu Thakuria, Krishna Kanta Das, PJ Baruah, Fakhrul Islam, Nanda Singh, Surajit Singh Panesar, Rupeswar Bargohain, Harekrishna Deka, Nityananda Goswami, Sanjiv Kumar Saikia, Balin Deuri, Dilip Baruah (rtd) and Madan Chetia � all APS.
This was revealed in a written reply by the Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain (on behalf of the Home Minister) to a short-notice question by Phani Bhushan Choudhury (AGP) in the Assembly today.
Hussain also stated that there were 17 and 208 vacancies against posts of IPS and APS officers respectively in the State at the moment. The State has 104 IPS officers (including 19 on Central deputation and two on inter-State deputation). The number of APS officers in the State is 344.
A total of 1,459 police personnel have been engaged in the security of police officers/employees of the State, he said.
