NALBARI, Aug 6 - The Nalbari district Congress Committee today filed a case at Nalbari police station against MLA Ashok Sarma, senior BJP leader and Chairman of Assam Tourism Development Corporation Jayanta Malla Baruah, Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari Purabi Konwar and Superintendent of Police Amanjit Kaur for alleged violation of the guidelines issued by the State Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna under the Assam State Disaster Management Act 2005.

The general secretary of Nalbari District Congress Committee Dibyajyoti Haloi in an FIR lodged at the police station alleged that during the Bishnu Yajna organised at Kharjhara Ashram on the occasion of the bhoomi pujan of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya yesterday, the COVID-19 guidelines were totally violated. He further alleged that during the Bishnu Yajna, there was no social distancing and the gathering crossed the maximum number 50 people allowed at a time for religious purposes.

Haloi added that the large number of gathering at the religious programme organised by a public representative in cooperation of the district administration posed a serious threat to the life of people in this pandemic situation. The Congress leader questioned why the Deputy Commissioner of Nalbari and the Superintendent of Police allowed permission to a public representative to hold such a Yajna with a huge gathering, which has totally violated the Governments guidelines.

Meanwhile, Ashok Sarma said its a conspiracy of the Opposition to show their existence. He said that there was no violation of Covid rules in the Bishnu Yajna.
