Case, counter-case over �molestation� charge

JORABAT, Sept 12 - A molestation case has been filed at the Sonapur Police Station against a fourth grade employee at the Sonapur Circle Office by a woman visiting the office to check her name in the final list of National Register of Citizens (NRC).

According to the woman who resides in a rented house at Sonapur, she had visited the Sonapur Circle Office on September 10 to check her name in the final list. Allegedly, one Jethua Garo, a fourth grade employee at the Circle Office tried to touch her inappropriately, to which she resisted. Subsequently, Garo asked her to come to the office after two days assuring her that he could help her in the matter.

As advised by Garo, the woman visited the Circle Office today and met him. Allegedly, Garo again tried to touch her inappropriately. The woman resisted his advances and shouted for help. Soon the situation turned very tense with the people present there demanding strict action against Garo and justice for the woman.

Sonapur police rushed to the spot and took control over the situation. Later, the woman filed a case against Jethua Garo at the Sonapur PS demanding justice.

Meanwhile, a counter-case was filed by Jethua Garo also, stating that the woman had brought a false allegation against him.

On the other hand, in a new twist to the incident, a case was also filed by the employees of the Sonapur Circle Office against a Sonapur resident Kanailal Das and a few others for using unparliamentary words maligning the image of office staff and disturbing the environment in the office, informed Jenifer Yasmin Choudhury, Circle Officer of the Sonapur.

It was alleged that Kanailal Das, after being called by the woman, tried to damage the environment of the office along with a few other men, in the name of demanding justice for the woman.

When approached, Officer in-charge of Sonapur PS Pankaj Kumar Roy said that no arrest has been made yet, as the police is investigating the matter. He said necessary action would be taken at the appropriate time.
