Career counselling prog for GU students held

GUWAHATI, Aug 7 � The Post Graduate Students� Union (PGSU) of Gauhati University recently organised a career counselling-cum-motivation programme for the students of the university. The programme was held at the Phanidhar Dutta seminar hall and was inaugurated by Dr Okhil Kr Medhi, Vice-Chancellor of GU.

Jyoti Prakash Tamuly of the Department of Linguistics and in-charge of the career counselling cell of GU, spoke about the career cell and its importance while Saurabh Kumar Baruah, vice-president of PGSU welcomed all the guests and speakers.

Arup Kumar Mishra, Ranjan Kumar Baruah, Ujjal Bora and Rajiv Deka participated as resource persons in the programme. Speaking on the occasion, Arup Kr Mishra from Assam Engineering College asked the students to choose their careers and not mere jobs. He also shared the experience of placement cell in his college and other places and how these placements cells have helped the students of the State.

Ranjan Kumar Baruah spoke on the importance of self-assessment and analysis to choose careers in life. He shared his experiences of working with young people and the challenge of getting proper employment by the youths of the State. Ujjal Bora, senior reporter of NE TV, spoke about job opportunities in the media. Rajiv Deka, career counsellor of GU, interacted with the students and appealed to them to maintain a positive attitude to attain success in life.

The counselling programme was chaired and moderated by Radha Charan Rabha, director of students welfare of GU. Students from different streams attended the programme and they got their doubts clarified by the resource persons.
