GUWAHATI, June 2 - The carcass of an elephant calf was recovered from a pit inside the Narangi Military cantonment this morning. Forest sources said that the calf a female around 2 years of age fell into the pit while moving along in a herd. The incident probably took place last night.

An Army spokesperson stated that following the discovery of the calf stuck in the drain at Narangi Military Station, the matter was immediately reported to Forest officials. The team of Forest officials on arrival declared the animal dead, most likely due to suffocation, he added.
