Cant pass Citizenship Bill in present form: CPIs D Raja

By Correspondent

IMPHAL, Jan 28 - Communist Party of India (CPI) national secretary and Rajya Sabha MP D Raja has assured that his party will demand that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 cannot be passed by the Rajya Sabha in the present form.

We will demand that this bill be referred to a select committee for further scrutiny. The select committee can visit all states in the North East. The concerns of the people should be addressed adequately, Raja said.

The CPI leader was speaking at a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill at Irabot Bhavan in Imphal on Sunday. Alleging that the Bill, which was passed in Lok Sabha where the ruling BJP is in majority, was an attempt to communalise the situation, said the Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu, adding that the country was passing through a critical period.
