Cannabis worth Rs 1.60 cr seized in Shillong

SHILLONG, June 10 - Customs officials here seized a truck at Shillong bypass loaded with 1027.260 kg of high quality cannabis worth Rs 1.60 crore on Friday.

Based on intelligence inputs, Customs officials intercepted the truck bearing Punjab registration, near Diengpasoh village in East Khasi Hills district.

However, no occupant was found inside the truck. The officials on searching the truck found the cannabis concealed inside a secret chamber made behind the driver�s cabin.

The illegal consignment originated from Tripura and was likely heading towards Bihar. The cannabis and the truck have been seized and a case registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

This is the second seizure of cannabis by Customs within seven days. On June 3, over 534 kg of cannabis was seized near Mawrengkneng and one person arrested.
