Candidates file papers with fanfare

GUWAHATI, March 21 - Political heavyweights resorted to show of strength on the city roads today as they came with large numbers of supporters to file nominations for the Assembly constituencies under Kamrup (Metro) district. The candidates of all the major political parties like the Congress, the BJP and AGP filed their nomination papers today with elaborate fanfare and a lot of din.

The BJP�s Himanta Biswa Sarma filed his nomination for the Jalukbari constituency, Siddhartha Bhattacharya for the East Guwahati constituency and Atul Bora for the Dispur constituency. Akon Bora of Congress filed nomination for Dispur and Ramendra Narayan Kalita of AGP filed nomination for West Guwahati.

Siddhartha Bhattacharya, who is a senior leader and also the national spokesperson of the party, started with a cycle procession, which was followed by a march on foot before filing his nomination. Atul Bora was followed by a large group of supporters on foot from the Latasil playground.

On the other hand, Himanta Biswa Sarma�s supporters followed him on foot to the DC office, Kamrup (Metro).

Congress candidate Akon Bora came to file his nomination with his supporters even before the official release of the list of candidates by his party.

The supporters following the candidates of all the political parties however created a lot of inconvenience for the common people with traffic snarls delaying their schedule.

Nomination was also filed today by former BJP leader Prodyut Kumar Bora, who floated the Liberal Democratic Party. Bora filed his nomination papers for the East Guwahati constituency.

A total of 13 candidates filed their nominations today that included both independent candidates and candidates of lesser known parties. Till date 19 candidates have filed their nominations for the four constituencies.
