TURA, March 22 - Veteran politician and United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate, Sayeedullah Nongrum filed his nomination papers here today along with the candidate of the National Peoples� Party, Ferlin CA Sangma.
The by-election to the Selsella Assembly seat was necessitated by the demise of Congress MLA, Clement Marak. His wife, June Eliana R Marak is also expected to file her nominations along with the Congress MP candidate, Mukul Sangma, on Monday, the last day of filing of nominations.
Clement Marak passed away on October 9 last year at a private hospital in New Delhi after a prolonged fight with cancer.
The seat looks set to be a triangular contest, though the BJP is yet to finalise a candidate for the seat. In the 2018 Assembly elections, Clement had won by a whisker against the NPP candidate, FCA Sangma.
