Candidates cry foul over GU faculty recruitment

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 8 - A group of candidates who had applied for the vacant post of Assistant Professor in the Department of Instrumentation and USIC in the Gauhati University (GU) have alleged anomalies in the recruitment process.

In a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor of GU, the candidates said that as per the advertisement (ADVT.T/2015/2) issued on August 26 last year, the specialisation sought for the post was Electronics.

However, there is no such specialisation in the syllabus of MSc Instrumentation course of the Gauhati University. As such, seeking Electronics as specialisation smacks of anomalies, indicating that the process was biased, it said.

It added, Research experience in Instrumentation was given as minimum essential qualification in the advertisement for the position mentioned. However, in the list of shortlisted candidates (for interview), there is a candidate who has no research experience in Instrumentation. The candidate completed MSc in Physics and PhD (pursuing at the time of interview) in Nano Science at the Physics department of IIT-B. Nano Science is a branch of Material Science, not related to Instrumentation. This is a major anomaly.

The candidates asked the Vice Chancellor to give preference to candidates having higher academic qualification, teaching and research experience in the relevant area.
