Candidate list has not been released yet: BJP

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 25 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh has made it clear that it has not yet released the names of candidates for the forthcoming Assembly election.

Party spokesperson Rupam Goswami said that a section of media has created a lot of din regarding the intending candidates of the BJP and he appealed to media to desist from publishing or telecasting such news.

We have not finalized the names of our candidates. But such kind of news floating around has created confusion among the party members and supporters, said Goswami, adding that media should refrain from speculative news in public interest.

It needs to be mentioned here that names of several BJP members for some constituencies have been doing the round for quite some time. However, Goswami asserted that no candidate has been finalized for any of the Legislative Assembly constituency. We will very soon finalize the names of our candidates and release it, he said.

On the other hand, reacting to certain allegations brought against the party by the Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad that manipulation was going on inside the party for candidate selection, Goswami said that it was totally baseless. He said that the BJP believed in democratic tradition and would not let down the aspirations of the people of Assam by stooping so low as to indulge in manipulation.

BJP is a democratic party and we will take the people of Assam into confidence before we finalize our candidate list, he asserted mentioning that the party will adhere to certain criteria for candidate selection. He also pointed out that individuals who have a clean image and brighter chance of winning will be selected for contesting the election.
