JORABAT, March 7 - Cancer in women is on the rise and there is also a lack of awareness about the disease among women, said Dr Areendam Barua at a cancer awareness programme for women organised by the NF Railway Employees Union, East Guwahati Branch today in its auditorium.
Dr Barua, a super specialist cancer surgeon serving at the North East Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, Jorabat was the key speaker in the programme where over 100 people were present, majority of them women.
Dr Barua focused on the common cancers in women � breast cancer and cervical cancer � and threw light on the preventive measures for both the cancers. He also laid stress on the warning signs and symptoms of such cancers and treatment.
The North East Cancer Hospital and Research Institute is running a project named �Mission Morigaon� led by its managing director Dr MN Baruah to control cancer in Morigaon district. As part of the mission, awareness programmes and screening camps are organised in different locations of the district.
