GUWAHATI, June 17 - The State unit of the ruling BJP has welcomed the State governments decision to set up 19 cancer care centres across Assam in partnership with Tata Trusts, saying the step proves that the BJP-led government is committed to providing quality healthcare to the poor sections of society.

The step will bring about a revolutionary and systematic transformation in the healthcare sector in Assam, said State BJP general secretary Dilip Saikia.

The scheme will benefit 60 lakh poor families of the State who will now be able to avail affordable cancer care. We congratulate Chief Minister Sonowal and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for taking the initiative to make this possible, Saikia said.

The ceremony of the proposed centres, to be set up at an investment of Rs 1,910 crore, will take place here tomorrow at a function to be attended by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP chief Amit Shah and Tata Trusts Chairman Ratan Tata.
