Canadian NGO visits Bherua-based tea garden

By Correspondent

DUNI, March 12 At a time when tea farmers are utilising chemical fertilisers and pesticide in Assam, the number of organic tea consumers is increasing day by day in foreign countries.

Obviously, information on establishment of organic tea gardens has now become welcome news for foreign tea consumers. Recently, a three-member NGO team representing Fertile Ground, Canada under the leadership of Khel Kelly visited the organic tea garden of Kajal Kishor Deka at Bherua village.

Deka has planted tea saplings in a plot of land measuring 12 bighas. According to Kelly, the purpose of their visit was to create awareness on organic tea and other organic farming procedures in Assam.

In an informal conversation, Kelly said that not only organic tea, but all sorts of organic agricultural products have a good market in Canada. Kelly demonstrated how to make bio-fertilisers from household items like cowdung, honey, etc.
