SIVASAGAR, March 30 - Electioneering in Sivasagar, Nazira, Amguri and Thowra legislative segments of 12 Jorhat constituency is gradually picking up as the candidates have been trying to reach out to the electorate through the media and addressed press meets at different places.

INC candidate Sushanta Borgohain on Wednesday said that the grassroot-level workers of the party are the star campaigners for him and he was least bothered with the star campaigners for his rival Tapan Gogoi in the constituency. He said that he would make Sivasagar a truly tourists destination and try his best to derail the ONGC privatisation move by the Union Hydrocarbon Ministry.

Borgohain said he would like to assure the people of Sivasagar that works on the proposed Desangmukh-Dhakuwakhana bridge over the Brahmaputra would begin in earnest once he is elected.

Further, he vowed to end the alleged syndicate Raj in contracts and business in Sivasagar.

Severely criticising both the BJP and the Congress party whose candidates represented the constituency in the Parliament since Independence, Kanak Gogoi, the CPI candidate in a press meet yesterday said that no political party will gain majority as BJP is facing an anti-incumbency wave while the Congress is affected by its misrule in the country. The candidate said that BJP is unleashing a divisive policy with its Hindutva agenda and pro-capitalists economic policies.

About AGP, Gogoi said it is a shame in the name of regionalism as AGP has been enjoying a pillion ride with the BJP. He committed to work in the interest of the common people, besides the deprived lot.
