Campaigning at its peak in Kokrajhar LS seat

By Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, April 20 - Just a day before the end of campaigning for the third phase of polls, all the candidates and parties were found campaigning and mudslinging to gain the attention of voters in Kokrajhar seat.

Attending several election meetings, UPPL candidate and former Rajya Sabha MP UG Brahma himself spoke about the deficiencies in policies, particularly for the long-term development of the BTAD region. Expressing his unhappiness and despair, he said that if there could be policies, schemes and plans in the name of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, than why such steps have not yet been taken in the name of the father of the Bodos, Bodofa UN Brahma by either the Central or the State Government so far.

He also alleged that actually there is no systematic planning for BTAD and only some piecemeal efforts are being made to popularise the Government. Nothing fruitful in fact has been done either by Hagrama Mohilary or by Sarbananda Sonowal. It is high time that a true public spirited representative raises his voice on the right platform, he said.

Addressing election meetings in various places in Kokrajhar, Brahma said eradicating mis-governance in this region, is the partys prime agenda apart from restoring sustainable peace and mutual confidence building across the people. At the same time, he reiterated to pursue with the government long-pending demands of the people of this region including its development.

Moreover, he stated that people have lost confidence on both the earlier Congress government and also on the Hagrama-led BPF for their failures to address the main issues and problems of the people, while the sitting MP Naba Kr Sarania has been doing nothing except dividing people in the name of Bodo and non-Bodos. He therefore appealed to the voters to vote for him for the overall development of the region.

ABSU president Promod Boro himself has been actively participating in the election campaign of UPPL candidate to woo voters while in the last few days the AIUDF supremo Badaruddin Ajmal has also been attending UG Brahmas poll campaign extending his support.

On the other hand, Congress candidate Sabda Ram Rabha in several meetings highlighted the Congress partys poll agenda and particularly pointed to working to regain mutual trust and cooperation of the people across communities. At the same time, Rabha blamed the sitting MP Naba Kr Sarania for dividing the society in the name of Bodos and non-Bodos.

Rabha also said there are lots of lacuna in the BTC Accord and due process of consultation is yet to be done to accommodate the hopes and aspirations of all sections of people living in this region for which he assured to mount pressure on the government for an urgent review of the BTC Accord . He has also reiterated his partys agenda of defeating the CAB.

Sitting MP Naba Kumar Sarania has been in constant touch with the voters of Kokrajhar seat which is a significant approach in wooing voters attending cluster campaigns in a somewhat micro level planning in pockets of several areas.

Although he is not organising mass gatherings, he has expressed confidence of winning with a higher margin. He said that certain issues like protecting the rights of the non-Bodos in BTAD region, persuading for ST status to deserving communities, preventing to divide Assam any further, preventing the upgradation of BTC status to UTC etc., are some of his basic issues.

Meanwhile, the BPF party led by Hagrama Mohilary this evening took out a mass rally in Kokrajhar town.
