AGARTALA, May 10 - The campaign for re-poll in 168 polling booths of West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency ended on Friday at 4 pm. Polling personnel are scheduled to leave for polling booths with EVMs and VVPATs on Saturday to conduct the re-poll in 168 polling stations. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the re-poll scheduled for May 12.

Re-poll in all the 168 booths will be conducted with full precautionary measures. Besides deployment of Central forces, webcasting will be done on voting session, said CEO Sriram Taranikanta here on Friday.

All the observers and micro observers have already taken charge for the re-poll in the 168 booths. We are hopeful that re-poll will be free, fair, peaceful and intimidation-free, he said.

The CEO added the Election department has already conducted campaign in re-poll bound areas urging the voters to cast their votes on May 12 without any fear as enough security measures have been put in place.

Out of the total 1,679 polling booths of West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency, the Election Commission had declared re-poll in 168 booths after examining the complaints and video footages on alleged large scale rigging and booth capturing.

A Left Front delegation led by its convenor Bijan Dhar met the CEO and Returning Officer of West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency Vikash Singh on Friday. In the meeting, they demanded foolproof arrangements so that voters could exercise their democratic rights without any fear and intimidation.

Interestingly, CPI(M) and Congress have already approached the Supreme Court seeking its intervention to order a re-poll in the entire Lok Sabha constituency.
