Campaign ends for West Tripura LS seat

By CORRESPONDENT

AGARTALA, April 9 - The stage is set for polling to the West Tripura Parliamentary constituency on April 11.

Hectic campaigning for the prestigious Lok Sabha seat ended today without any major untoward incident. But inclement weather played spoilsport on the last day of the campaign.

Adequate security has been provided to all candidates and each polling booth will have a three-tier security coverage. There will be webcasting in each booth to make the polling more transparent.

In all the 1,679 polling booths a three-tier security cover has been mulled to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections, said Returning Officer (RO) of the constituency, Dr Sandeep Mahatme, here.

The RO said altogether 13,47,377 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise on the polling day for the West Tripura Lok Sabha seat. Out of the total voters, male voters stand at 6,82,122 and female voters at 6,65,248. As many as 180 booths have been identified as critical.

A total of 14 polling booths will be managed by women from polling staff to security personnel to micro observers, the RO said, adding that over 9,000 polling personnel would be engaged in the polling process.

Dr Mahatme said EVM commissioning has already been completed and all of them have been kept in strongrooms under tight security coverage.
