By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, June 10 The Assam Environmental NGOs Forum on Sunday organized a signature campaign across the city protesting against the spurt in rhino poaching in Kaziranga National Park (KNP).

This campaign seeks to create mass awareness on the ruthless killing of rhinos and compel the Government into some meaningful action for saving the pachyderms.

Four NGOs, i.e., Early Birds, Aaranyak, Kaziranga Wildlife Society and Aranya Suraksha Samity collected signatures of the citizens at places such as Chandmari, Jalukbari, Jonali Bus Stop and Kachari. A similar campaign was also organized at Udalguri, Nagaon, Rowta besides some other places of the State.

The signatures will later be submitted to Governor and the Chief Minister.

Together with the collected signatures, a charter of demands will also be submitted to the Governor and the Chief Minister. The charter of demands will include sealing of the porous entrances leading towards the Kaziranga National Park; strict punishment for the poachers; recruitment of young and dynamic youths in the Forest Department and providing them adequate job security. Among others, the Forum said.
