GUWAHATI, May 31 - To create awareness among the common people, mainly youth, on the ill-effects of tobacco and tobacco products, Consumers Legal Protection Forum, Assam, today released a video on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day.

In the video, students and parents from different parts of the State are seen appealing to the State government to save the lives of young generation by effectively banning smoke and smokeless tobacco products and implement tobacco vendor licensing in the whole State as early as possible.

The students and parents also appealed to the tobacco users that this is the high time to quit tobacco because spitting in public places and smoking both increase the chances of spreading COVID-19.

A poster campaign was also carried out by the students and parents from different parts of the State, demanding to protect the youth from industry manipulation and preventing them from use of tobacco and nicotine.

Through both the campaigns, the students and parents urged tobacco users to say no to smoke or smokeless tobacco, stop buying tobacco and tobacco products, choose health not tobacco, etc.

Advocate Ajoy Hazarika, secretary, Consumers Legal Protection Forum, Assam, said, All of us have to fight for a tobacco-free generation. The world cannot afford another generation deceived by the lies of the tobacco industry. Tobacco companies spend over USD 9 billion in marketing and advertising. They continuously find new consumers to replace the ones that their products are killing to maintain revenue.
