Call to raise voice against child labour

GUWAHATI, Nov 21 - Matri, an organisation working for child rights advocacy, observed International Child Rights Day on November 19 in collaboration with Snehalaya, Don Bosco, said a press release here today.

A special walkathon was organised in which children from different organisations, like Snehalaya, Child Friendly Guwahati, Shishu Sarothi, FasCe India, World Vision, Utsah, Raang and Montfort School, participated.

The theme of the rally was �Child Liberty�. The rally started at 9.30 am from Don Bosco School, Panbazar and was flagged off by actor Kapil Bora. The children walked a distance of 2 km covering the roads of Cotton College, Handique Girls� College, Dighalipukhuri and then returned to Don Bosco School.

A cultural programme was also put up by the children of the organisations.

�Today is a special day for you. Raise your voice against injustice, child abuse and child labour,� said Fr Thadeus Kujur, Director of Snehalaya.

Noted child specialist Dr Prakritish Bora spoke about child health and urged the children to come together for child liberty. Lita Hazarika, president and Archana Goswami, secretary of Matri thanked all the participating organisations, guests, volunteers and the children for making the walkathon a success.
