GUWAHATI, Dec 4 - Voluntary organisation the Brahmaputra Management and Development has appealed to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to protect river island Majuli from erosion.
The voluntary organisation also urged the Chief Minister to secure the Union governments approval to the Profit Brahmaputra model project submitted by it on June 18 and get it implemented.
The model project has proposed means to bring under control the twin problems of flood and erosion and creation of a road communication infrastructure with two highways along the mighty river and reclamation of land for the use of many developmental purposes. This will finally augment the flow of revenue to the State exchequer and render help in solving the burgeoning unemployment problem of the State, claimed the voluntary organisation.
