Call to preserve Karbi language

DIPHU, Jan 20 - The 26th annual conference of the Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA), the foremost literary body of the Karbi community of Assam which is being held at Dhansari recreational area at Hanjanglangso ( Sorihojan) within Bokajan subdivision of Karbi Anglong, entered the third day today.

Today�s programme began with unfurling of the Karbi Lammet Amei banner by the president of the organisation Suren Kramsa at around 8:00 am followed by reminiscences of past litterateurs by KLA president Lunse Timung. At 10:30 am, MAC Longki Timung inaugurated the second day�s agenda devoted to prolific Karbi novelist Kehai Bey.

During the second session, the souvenir was released by Chitra Kumar Bey. Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Executive Member Jagatsing Engti, incharge of Higher Education, graced the occasion as chief guest while several luminaries, including ex-MLA Dharamsing Teron, MAC Longki Timung, noted writers Hakim Rongpi, Barim Engti and others were present as guests of honour.

The souvenir was released by Executive Member Jagatsing Engti. While addressing the congregation, Engti expressed his gratitude to the writers for their valuable contributions.

Appointed speakers and novelist who were present as guests stated that the Karbi language was facing danger of extinction. Hence, they unanimously requested the Karbi community to defend, maintain, preserve and above all love the Karbi tongue and text.
