Call to institute Chair in Dr Guha�s name

GUWAHATI, May 15 � Participants of a memorial meeting organised by the city-based voluntary organisation Anwesha on May 13 at its Barowari premises to pay tributes to noted social scientist Dr Amalendu Guha, who passed away recently, called for steps to institute a Chair in Dr Guha�s name in any of the State�s universities.

The proposal adopted in the meeting, said that institution of a Chair in Dr Guha�s name would help continue the legacy of high scholarship embodied in his works.

The meeting was attended by the Gauhati University (GU) Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Mridul Kumar Hazarika, Cotton College State University (CCSU) VC Dr Dhrubajyoti Saikia, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Guwahati Director Dr Virginius Xaxa, former Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh VC Dr AC Bhagabati and former Dibrugarh University VC Dr Kulendu Pathak, among others.

The meeting formed a committee comprising the present and former VCs present in the meeting, TISS Director and Anwesha president Paresh Malakar to work on the proposal so that it could be translated into reality expeditiously, said a press release received here today.
