AIZAWL, March 19 - The Sinlung Hills Accord Implementation Demand Committee (SHAIDC), a Sakawrdai-based organisation fighting for implementation of the Hmar accord, on Wednesday called for immediate implementation of the peace accord signed between the Mizoram Government and the erstwhile Hmar Peoples Convention (HPC) in July, 1994.
Talking to reporters here, SHAIDC general secretary Lalparkunga said it had filed a petition at the Aizawl bench of the Gauhati High Court in May, 2016 over non-implementation of clauses 5.1 and 5.3 of the 1994 peace accord. He added that the High Court had on February 21 issued an order asking the State Government to file an affidavit on implementation of the clauses within for weeks. The next hearing is scheduled for April 30.
Meanwhile, Mizoram Chief Secretary Lalnunmawia has said that the Government had partly implemented the peace accord, though full implementation is under process. He added that there are certain clauses in the accord that need time to be implemented and the State Government is making efforts to implement them fully.
