By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, May 9 The Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti, which is the students wing of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, today called upon the Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Alak Kumar Buragohain to immediately resolve all the problems of the students arising out of the newly-introduced semester system.

The student body of the KMSS said that delay in declaring results of the students after every semester examination was causing several problems to the student community. The students unable to clear certain exams in the previous semesters face the wrath of the system due to the delay results following re-evaluation of answer scripts.

The samiti submitted a memorandum to the vice chancellor, demanding immediate streamlining of the whole semester system and to ensure a student-friendly education system. The student leaders of the organisation asked the vice chancellor to direct all affiliated and permitted colleges under DU to conduct about 90-120 classes in a semester and demanded announcement of results within 45 days after each semester examination. They also demanded re conduct of examination for students with backs within 45 days after the declaration of results.

Stating that the dropout rate had increased in the educational institutions with the introduction of the semester system, the student wing of the KMSS urged upon the DU authorities to take up the issue seriously and scrutinise the whole system and come up with a comprehensive report. The student body suggested that the teacher-student ration be 1:30 for smooth implementation of the semester system. They further demanded the DU authorities to stop the enrollment fees extracted every semester from the students and also sought decrease in the fees.
