Call to evict encroachers from Orang

By Spl Correspondent

NEW DELHI, March 7 In the face of the threat posed by encroachment in Orang National Park by illegal Bangladeshi migrants, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ramen Deka has urged the Centre to prevail on Assam Government to increase the manpower for patrolling and security.

Tabling a notice under Rule 377 in the Lok Sabha, Deka stated that there was a serious threat to survival of the Orang National Park due to illegal encroachment by Bangladeshi infiltrators.

He said the manpower needed to be increased to stop poaching and evict encroachers to save the parks wildlife.

The Orang National Park, home to several critically endangered species was declared a game reserve by the British in 1915 and the State Forest department declared it as a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1985 to meet the demand of Project Tiger.
